The creation of the picturesque Hawktree Golf Club was a collaborative effort. Burnt Creek first molded the course’s hills and valleys over the span of millennia, and then in the year 2000 master landscape architect Jim Engh designed its 18 unique holes. Hawktree’s 80 acres sprawl across lush fairways, crystal clear lakes, and striking black sand bunkers. But it is not simply the course’s natural beauty that has made it one of the Golf Range Association of America’s top 50 public ranges.

Hawktree is cleverly laid out so that anyone, regardless of their level of skill, can play a rewarding game of golf. Each hole possesses four sets of tees, suitably titled falcon, hawk, eagle, and owl. They let players mold their experience however they see fit. If you have skills that would put Davis Love III to shame, you may enjoy a challenging 7,085 yard course. If you are still mastering the sport, you may shorten your game all the way down to 4,868 yards. There are eight different options for play at Hawktree, making it one of the most versatile and accommodating courses in the country, let alone in North Dakota.

While the golfing experience that Hawktree offers is superlative, the course remains a public facility devoted to serving all guests. If you haven’t time for a full game, you may still hone your abilities on Hawktree’s full-length driving range, two practice putting greens, and chipping green. You may even hack it out at their practice sand bunker. Hawktree’s manager and resident PGA professional Michael Herzog can help anyone to perfect their form, and as a master children’s teacher he helms the course’s junior golf academy. Michael and his staff are devoted to giving kids the instruction in golf they need to have a lifelong friend in the great sport.

The Hawks Nest Bar & Grill is the perfect way to conclude a great game of golf, and alone is worth the trip. Its view is indisputably the best in Bismarck — from it you can see all but four of the range’s scenic holes, a perfect accompaniment to food and drink. To take a client to the Hawks Nest is to seal the deal, and to eat their breakfast sandwich is to have the best in the state. It is also the classiest place in town in which to watch a football game. In the neighboring pro shop you may peruse the best of what Nike, PING, Under Armour, TravisMathew, and Donald Ross Sportswear have to offer. Even a duffer deserves to wear no less.

Hawktree provides state of the art golf carts to cut out the least enjoyable aspect of a game of golf, which is to say traversing miles while towing a set of clubs. Each cart is outfitted with a GPS system, which displays the exact yardage to the upcoming flag stick. This year Hawktree has reduced the rates for their cart leases: One seat costs $750 instead of $1,000, and two seats cost $1,000 rather than $1,350. If you would have a friend join you for a game, there is no better way to treat them.

Hawktree’s pricing has become even more accessible courtesy of this year’s early bird specials. A certificate holder can receive a great discount on their play for 2020 if they sign up before January 31st. And should you bring this copy of Shop.Dine.Live. to Hawktree, they’ll give you that same deal up until February 29th. If you have a dealership or brokerage, the extra passes that come with Hawktree’s early bird special will let you give your clients the finest appreciation gifts imaginable.

Hawktree Golf Club is located at 3400 Burnt Creek Loop in Bismarck. To find out more about their course, learning opportunities, special events, and their early bird specials, and to become a certificate holder, please email PGA head golf professional Michael Herzog at
