How many times have you asked a family member or friend where they’d like to eat only for them to answer “I don’t know?”  Those words are the source of frustration for many people.  Fortunately, David Hoffman and his business partner/husband Wayne Sander have brought the solution to Moorhead.  On July 5th, the duo opened i.d.k. Contemporary Fine Dining.  The next time you hear the dreaded “I don’t know,” head on down to 28 4th St N.Longtime Moorhead residents will recognize that location as where Sarello’s used to be, which provided a fine dining place to the city.  The restaurant’s closing in June of 2015 left a definite void for those east of Red River.  That is where i.d.k. comes in.  “Moorhead needed a new restaurant,” said Hoffman, a thirty-four-year veteran of the food industry.

The first thing you will notice when you step into i.d.k. is the casually elegant sophistication of the seating area.  Hoffman and his team spent a significant amount of time refurbishing the restaurant.  The result is a contemporary décor that is both alluring and appealing.

As staff walk by in formal attire, it is obvious that everyone from the top on down takes a great deal of pride in establishing an atmosphere that is a step above your average restaurant.  That atmosphere includes art by local artists, all of which are for sale.  “People love the atmosphere,” Hoffman said. “It’s very relaxing; makes you feel like you’re at home.”

The restaurant has designated lunch as more casual, to cater to the working crowd. Despite that, however, there is nothing wanting from the lunch menu.  i.d.k’s midday offerings include more burgers and sandwiches, perfect for those with limited windows of time.  Think about biting into an applewood smoked bacon cheddar burger or a green olive and cream cheese burger.  How about a seared ahi tuna salad or a turkey bacon avocado sandwich?

Although the lunch menu has received rave reviews, dinner is the star of the show.  It is fine dining at its best.  “Our lamb is the best dish at night,” Hoffman said.  “Other dinner favorites include bleu cheese crusted filet, maple pecan salmon, and raspberry pork chicken.”  i.d.k. also serves a variety of pasta dishes as well.  And don’t forget the dessert — the mouth-watering possibilities include crème brûlée, chocolate orange marquise, and dulce le leche cheesecake. Be still, my beating heart.

i.d.k. also has a private dining room that can be reserved for meetings or parties. According to Hoffman, the restaurant is already booking for Christmas.  As for the future of his restaurant, Hoffman plans to add a Sunday brunch and would like to start a wine club.  So far, it appears that the sky is the limit for Moorhead’s newest eatery.  “We’ve only been open a short time, and we are growing every day.”

i.d.k. Contemporary Fine Dining is open for lunch from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  Dinner hours are 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm Friday and Saturday.  Check out the restaurant’s Facebook page for more information, including a complete menu.
