Summer is over, which means big changes lie ahead – and no, we aren’t talking about the weather. Beauty and skincare trends tend to transition along with the seasons, with light BB creams being traded for full coverage liquid foundation and intense night creams. So what products should be in your arsenal this fall? Read on to see our top picks!

Eyes

It’s time to forget everything you’ve learned about eye shadows and liners because this season, all of the rules are flying out the window. In the past, red shadow colors were a big no-no but this year, they’re all the rage with celebrities such as Kristen Stewart and Rihanna rocking copper and brick tones. The Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quad in 268 Candeur et Experience from Chanel contains four rich rouge hues that can be worn together or solo. If you want just a touch of red, use a lip liner along your lash line – Make Up Forever’s liner in Brick is a great choice.

Cheeks

It used to be that a dusting of pink blush was all a gal needed to make her cheeks glow, but now we also have highlighter, bronzer, illuminator – talk about next level beauty! This season, make up addicts can’t get enough of the gorgeous offerings from Becca. Check out the new Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Splits – this awesome compact has both blush and illuminating powder in flattering shades that definitely pop. For a simple way to get that Kardashian-inspired contour, try the Maybelline Face Studio Master Contour Stick. This innovative chubby pencil has two shades on either side, so you’ll get the perfect highlight and contour in no time.

Lips

With cooler temps comes drier air, which can cause some serious chapped lips. Pick up a quality balm that locks moisture in – Fresh has a great line of sugar-based scrubs and balms that will leave your lips super soft. For color, the classic red lip is hotter than ever. Kat von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Underage Red is long-lasting with a smooth, matte finish. For something a bit glossier, try The Juicy Shaker from Lancome in Cherry Symphony. This rich oil has intense staying power and shine. Use a lip liner in a slightly darker shade to prevent bleeding.

Face

Once the sweltering summer heat dies down, many of us switch to a fuller coverage foundation. This year, it’s all about cushion compacts which contain sponges soaked with foundation and a puff for easy application. Belief Cosmetics recently introduced the Moisturizing Bomb Cushion Compact, which features a smooth BB cream and SPF 50 for buildable coverage that lasts up to 26 hours.  L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation comes in 12 shades for nearly any skin tone. End with a translucent setting powder such as ELF High Definition Powder or Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder for a flawless finish.

Hair

This autumn, it’s all about the individual when it comes to hair styling. Textured curls are definitely in, along with intricate hair jewelry. Morrocanoil’s Dry Texture Spray works well on all types of hair, even second or third day to create a piecey, layered look. If you need to reduce oil, try a dry shampoo such as Living Proof Perfect Hair Day or Dove. For an elegant addition, try pretty hair accessories in a metallic tone. Forever21, Claire’s, and Etsy are great places to shop for headbands, hair clips, and more.

Skin Care

It’s imperative to develop a skin care routine that relieves dryness and irritation in the cooler months, as a lack of moisture can actually lead to an increase in breakouts. Start with a gentle cleanser, such as Fresh Soy Milk Cleansing Milk or Simple Micellar Water to remove dirt, grime, grease, and makeup. Follow that with a serum designed for your individual skin concerns, such as fine lines or dark spots – both Ole Henriksen and Dr. Brandt have amazing products.

Moisturizing is the most important part of your skin care regimen; use a lighter formula in the morning, such as Neutrogena Naturals Brightening Daily Moisturizer or Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. At night, use Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream or Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Night moisturizer to really pack a punch.

Fragrance

Top off your glamorous look with a touch of exotic fragrance that will definitely turn heads. There are several new scents on the market this season, so make sure to catch a whiff of them all before making your pick. My Burberry Black from Burberry features notes of jasmine, rose, and amber patchouli while Orchid Soliel from Tom Ford is a sensual mix of black orchid, vanilla, and chestnut. If you aren’t sure which scent is right for you, pick up a roller ball first – they’re less expensive and give you a chance to test out fragrances before committing.
