Halloween is right around the corner and young and old alike have already begun planning their holiday festivities. It appears as though Hollywood will once again reign supreme when it comes to costume ideas.
According to Party City, the most popular costumes among young girls includes characters from Alice in Wonderland, Finding Dory, Zootopia, and Star Wars. Never fear, however, that doesn’t mean tried and true favorites like princesses, animals, and superheroes will be forgotten.
When it comes to little boys, it appears that inspiration drawn from Ghostbusters, PAW Patrol, Lego Ninjago, Super Mario and Ninja Turtles will fill our streets come October 31. Additional contenders include such timeless costumes as Spiderman, Batman, Super America, and really any superhero you can think of, and everyday heroes like police officers and firefighters.
As with the girls, there will be plenty of little boys dressed up as animals, the fiercer the better. Is there any better place to show off those costumes than at the Red River Zoo’s “Boo at the Zoo” event? Not only will children be able to trick-or-treat in a safe and secure venue, they will also be able to interact with animals that are both make-believe and real.
According to Zoo Event Manager Daphne Meyers, approximately 11, 224 people have participated in the event over the past three years. What started out as “Night Eyes,” Boo at the Zoo attracted a whopping 4,522 people last year alone.
For Meyers, the success of the event is two-fold. In addition to providing a safe environment for Halloween revelry, attendees are also able to interact with animals when they are most comfortable as far as environment is concerned. “We are a zoo that specializes in cold climate species,” she explained. “If you drew a ring around the planet, our species would come from the ring which includes Fargo.”
In addition to trick-or-treating, children will be able to create fall crafts, decorate pumpkins, and watch the animals receive their own Halloween “treats” from the zookeepers. And all without battling the scorching summer sun. Rumor has it there will even be critter encounters and a possible cockroach race or two!
