If you are a bargain hunter like me, West Fargo’s Fall Rummage Sale is a must-see event. Now in its tenth year, the sale was initially called the “Holiday Craft and Rummage Sale” before evolving into the “Fall Rummage Sale.” Always held in September, the sale is one of the most popular events in the Fargo/Moorhead area.
West Fargo Park District Recreation Specialist Allison Hauschild has seen that popularity first hand.
“Every year we get close to 2,000-3,000 participants who come to shop around,” she explained. “For booth spaces, we have over 200 in the fall and there is always a wait list as we get closer to the event.”
Something for Everyone
A wise man once said, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” That is the notion the Fall Rummage Sale was built upon. At the event, you will find typical rummage sale items such as clothes, kitchenware, antiques, kids’ items, etc. That isn’t all you can expect, however. “We are getting more popular with the home based businesses like Scentsy and Tupperware,” Hauschild said. “We also get a couple of people who make items such as pillowcases/pillows, blankets, gloves doll furniture, etc.”
Some of you may have attended West Fargo’s Gigantic Rummage Sale in the spring, so you understand the enormity of the event.
“There is something there for everyone,” Hauschild said. “It takes time to go from booth to booth, but more than likely you’ll come out with some nice items.” Hauschild advises people to get to the event early. “It gets picked over very fast.”
Who, What, Where, When
The West Fargo Park District is responsible for a variety of events throughout the year.
“We are always growing with programs and activities for the community,” Hauschild explained.
The Park District also has a brand new recreation facility called Rustad Recreation Center, located at 601 26th Avenue East, where they can do more evening leagues in the winter and youth programs. The facility will also have birthday party packages and a walking track for the public to use. “As our community grows, the Park District grows,” Hauschild said. “It’s an exciting time!”
The Fall Rummage Sale will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Arena on September 10th from 7am-1pm. Admission is only $1 and ages 17 and under are free. The Veterans Memorial Arena is located at 1201 7th Avenue East in West Fargo.
